Program Costs

All programming, now organized through the Soundbox Fellowship Program, centers around an artist residency and a variety of educational and public events. In 2024, SFP participants were eligible to apply for some financial aid. Soundbox Ventures seeks to expand its financial aid program, and is constantly exploring ways to reduce the program fees to participants.

Program fees consist of tuition and residency costs. Financial aid is available for all programs and can only be used towards tuition fees. No full scholarships are awarded. For full details, please see below.

  • Tuition for each Soundbox Fellowship Program (SFP) residency covers all artistic, educational, and administrative components of the program. This includes:

    • Individual lessons and group coachings

    • Workshops and rehearsals

    • Recording sessions and engineer fees

    • Seminar modules in communication, career development, and creative advocacy

    • Access to facilities, rehearsal spaces, and program materials

    • Documentation of participant work (audio, video, or mixed media depending on the program)

Tuition rates vary by program length, curriculum, and artists involved. Please note that there are many variables that can affect program costs, including seasonal tourism, transportation and venue costs, and more. Financial aid offers may be used towards reducing tuition fees.

  • Most SFP workshops operate as residency programs. Participants stay at designated housing (either Steinwachs Artist Residences or a partner hotel) throughout the workshop period.
    Housing costs typically include:

    • Single private bedroom in a shared 3-bedroom apartment with fully equipped kitchen, common living space, and free in-unit laundry facilities for the full duration of the residency

    • On-site program necessities such bottled water, detergents, and snacks

    • Local car transportation to program activities and venues, including pickup and dropoff at airport (with limited exceptions depending on departure, arrival, and availability of staff)

Residency costs depend on the size of the program. Flights to and from Sarasota as well as local travel costs depend on the season as Sarasota is a rich cultural tourist destination.

    What is not covered:

    • Your travel to/from Sarasota

    • Visa application needs (if required)

    • Meals (although we partner with local restaurants to provide bento lunch boxes at a discounted rate on busy workshop dates)

    • Personal materials (equipment such as computers, software, supplies) as relevant

Financial Aid

The Soundbox Fellowship Program (SFP) is committed to supporting talented artists who demonstrate financial need. Need-based financial aid is offered each year to help reduce the tuition costs of participating in the program. All financial aid decisions are made alongside the admissions offer so that applicants can plan confidently.

Admissions to the Soundbox Fellowship Program are need-blind. Your financial circumstances have no impact on your eligibility for admission. Financial aid requests are reviewed only after admissions decisions are made. Applicants with concerns about affordability are encouraged to contact the admissions team at info@soundboxventures.org before applying or upon receiving an offer.

  • Financial aid is awarded based on demonstrated financial need. Applicants must submit information about their own income and assets—and, when applicable, those of their parents or legal guardians—to allow Soundbox to determine eligibility.

To assess need fairly and consistently, Soundbox considers multiple indicators, including:

    Household Income

Applicants whose family income falls at or below 150% of the federal poverty line are typically considered to have significant financial need. Applicants above this threshold may still qualify, depending on documented expenses, family circumstances, or other financial pressures.

    Participation in Public Assistance Programs

Applicants currently enrolled in federal or state assistance programs—such as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)TANF, or free/reduced lunch programs—are automatically considered high-need. Verification of participation strengthens the financial aid application but is not required to be eligible.

    Contextual Financial Circumstances

Soundbox also evaluates individual or family circumstances that may not be reflected in tax documents, such as:

    • High cost-of-living areas

    • Significant medical or caregiving expenses

    • Loss of employment

    • Educational or professional expenses directly related to artistic training

Applicants are encouraged to submit an optional statement to explain circumstances that impact their ability to afford tuition.

  • Your attendance can be supported by financial aid! However, you must apply for financial aid when you apply for the program.

Financial aid is available for ALL applicants, including internationals to the United States.

    Required Documentation

Applicants requesting financial aid must upload documents as PDF files with standardized filenames. The following materials are required unless otherwise noted:

    1. Applicant 1040 Tax Form (if filed)

    Filename: Lastname_Firstname_1040.pdf
Applicants who are dependents or non-filers may disregard this requirement. International applicants may submit an equivalent tax return from their country of origin, and must include an English translation if it is not already.

    2. Parent or Legal Guardian 1040 Tax Form

    Filename: Lastname_Firstname_Guardian_1040.pdf
Required for dependent applicants or those supported by caregivers. International applicants may submit an equivalent tax return from their country of origin, and must include an English translation if it is not already.

    3. Applicant Monthly Cash Flow Statement

    Filename: Lastname_Firstname_CashFlow.pdf
A breakdown of monthly income and expenses. ACCESS THIS FORM HERE

    4. Federal or State Assistance Verification (if applicable)

    Filename: Lastname_Firstname_Programs.pdf
Documentation may include SNAP, TANF, or free lunch program verification.

    5. Optional Supplemental Documentation

If you do not receive public assistance, you may submit equivalent documentation demonstrating need, such as:

    • Standardized test fee waivers signed by a school counselor

    • Financial aid award letters (e.g., for the 2025–26 academic year)

    • Scholarship letters for similar programs

All supplemental documents should be combined into one PDF beginning with:
    Lastname_Firstname_Supplemental.pdf

    6. Optional Personal Statement

Applicants may include a short letter explaining personal or family circumstances that contribute to financial need.

  • How to Apply

The financial aid request is included as part of the online application to the Soundbox Fellowship Program. During the application process, you will be asked to:

    1. Indicate your interest in requesting financial aid.

    2. Request a specific dollar amount of tuition support. (Please do not request full tuition.)

    3. Upload the required documentation in PDF format.

Financial aid decisions are released at the same time as admissions decisions.

You have the option to appeal the financial aid decision.

  • External Funding Support

Soundbox Ventures is committed to helping admitted participants identify and pursue additional external funding. Upon request, the program can provide:

    • Letters of support

    • Enrollment verification

FAQs

  • Yes. The application process is the same for all applicants! Foreign applicants must translate required forms for their application into English if necessary.

If you would like to apply for financial aid after you submit your application, we cannot guarantee you will receive the amount of aid you request. You may still request a financial aid supplement after submitting your application, but we also cannot guarantee that you will receive your financial aid decision at the time we notify you of your successful application.

  • In most circumstances, the answer is no. The residency is organized with advanced reservation of housing and transportation arrangements. Furthermore, this is an aspect of community engagement that is built into the program. It is important that all matriculated participants are involved fully in the program.

  • No. All participants engage in the same curriculum. The costs involved cannot be prorated based on the number of days a participant decides to attend.
