The Suncoast Composer Fellowship Program 2024

Session 1: August 18-24 | Composing and Recording Workshop for young composers (pre-college, undergraduate, and masters degree students)

Applications are now closed. Thank you for your interest. Information about this program next year will be released in February 2025.

The aims of the inaugural Composing and Recording Workshop are many: to offer opportunities to young composers to develop their portfolio, receive excellent mentorship from award-winning composer faculty members, workshop their new works at a high level with musicians from the top music schools in the United States, and preview the working environment of a composer’s career path in the supportive and nurturing environment of a summer program.

SCFP Session 1: “Composing and Recording Workshop”

Participants in this program will compose a new work and have it workshopped and recorded by Soundbox resident artists. In this session of SCFP, participants will:

  • write a new short work of approximately 5 minutes for either solo piano, string and piano duo, string quartet, piano trio, or piano quartet.

  • receive 2 consultation lessons from an assigned mentor

  • travel to Sarasota, FL for a week-long residency

  • workshop their new works with resident musicians

  • attend at least 2 lectures, including 1 discussion/meditation on wellness and practical career development

  • receive editing consultation in group discussions and access to 1-on-1 office hours in person from their assigned faculty

  • receive a recording of their new work by resident musicians

More details about the program are given below.
